FORENSIC fingerprint analysis proves to be key link in catching sex killer Peter Tobin for the murder of schoolgirl Vicky Hamilton.

Through using the latest fingerprint analysis technology Peter Tobin was trapped by a set of fingerprints identified by a team of fingerprint experts operating from a state-of-the-art police lab in Edinburgh.

Fingerprint analysis experts were contacted by police after Vicky's body was found in November 2007 at a house in Margate, Kent, 16 years after she went missing in Bathgate, West Lothian, aged 15. To aid the investigation a forensic fingerprint analysis was conducted across the crime scene in an effort to locate the killer.

Crime scene examiners found fingerprints on a plastic bag which had been wrapped round Vicky before she was buried in the garden of the house, which once belonged to Peter Tobin. Peter Tobin is currently completing a life sentence.
